SECURITY ASSISTANT

1. Receives, reviews, and submits requests for personnel clearances for serviced civilian and military personnel. Checks the request for completeness and accuracy and contacts the Security Manager, Supervisor, points of contact at the serviced units, and/or the individual subject of the background/clearance investigation for any questions or corrections that are required. Returns those forms requiring further documentation or correction. Screens local personnel, as well as local police and finance records for disclosed and undisclosed derogatory information, which may have an impact on the career of the subject under investigation. Questions the subject for clarification on responses that are considered derogatory. Forwards completed form to the appropriate agency for investigation and clearance determination. (30%) 2. Maintains contact with the agency conducting the investigation as well as the requesting unit in order to keep all apprised of the process or to provide notification of any developing situations. Acts as the primary point of contact regarding the status of all pending clearances, current security clearance status, or questions on security clearance procedures. Provides input to the supervisor or serviced units, based on regulatory requirements, on possible courses of action as a result of the investigative agency's questions on security issues or the denial of a clearance as a result of the investigation. Provides information to the unit serviced or the subject of the investigation as to the appeals process if the investigating agency denies the security clearance. (30%) 3. Maintains a file for status of pending investigations, current status of all members, as well as periodic reinvestigations for secret and top secret clearances held. Checks with the agency performing the investigation for an update on the status of the security clearance in question. Notifies the units of individuals requiring reinvestigation and resubmission of documentation. Provides reports, as required, for status on pending or current investigations or periodic reinvestigations. Composes documentation, for supervisors' signature, verifying security clearances for those individuals going on Temporary Duty (TDY) to other locations and requests the same of locations with individuals coming TDY to their location. Forwards official clearance determinations to the appropriate office(s), prepares appropriate paperwork concerning the results of the investigation, and maintains files in accordance with applicable regulations. Updates the appropriate personnel database or provides information to the appropriate function for the update of the database.(30%) 4. Provides instruction or presentations to unit administrators and/or unit security managers on documentation requirements and regulations, policies, and procedures to be followed. (10%) Performs other duties as assigned. GENERAL
Experience:
Clerical or administrative work which indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Must have at least 12 months experience, education or training performing clerical or administrative duties in an office environment. Must have experience performing office functions using computers and automation systems. Experience working independently and setting priorities with very little supervisory control.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
