$25.56 - $40.90 Hourly$53,165 - $85,064 AnnuallyThis position is a Pay Band 70Posting DetailsInterviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.The New Mexico State Fire Marshals office consists of four Bureaus, Fire Service Support, Code Enforcement, Fire Investigations, and the Firefighters Training Academy, This position will Fall within the Fire Support Bureau, this position will have the option of working out of the State Fire Marshal's office located in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Socorro or at a field office around the state (in the candidate's local area). and would report as needed to the Santa Fe office. Why does the job exist?Position conducts detailed assessments/trainings of all certified fire departments utilizing New Mexico State Statue 59A-53 the o 'Fire Protection Fund Act', New Mexico Administrative Rule I 0.25.10 The Fire Protection Fund', National Fire Protection Associations Codes and Standards. the Insurance Service Office (1S0) and nationally accepted practices for preparedness of emergency response. These assessments/trainings are conducted 100% in the field with representatives from the local fire department and local government.Position works with local governments and citizens of communities from around the state for the establishment. certification and funding of new fire departments and stations in accordance with New Mexico State Statue 59A-53 the Fire Protection Fund Act, New Mexico Administrative Rule 10.25.10 The Fire Protection Fund. Position performs feasibility assessments for determination of needs assessing the proposed area to be protected, the proposed station location. the number of firefighters, the water availability, and overall community fire suppression ability. Upon completion the position will make an official recommendation of the findings to the Fire Marshal.Position performs trainings and assistance to certified fire districts in preparation of a third-party Insurance Service Office (ISO) survey. An ISO survey is an assessment of a community's ability to provide structural fire protection, based on the results of the assessment insurance companies utilize the rating in whole or in part to establish insurance premiums for the citizens in the given community. The Position aids the district chief and community leaders with the proper paperwork, communication requirements, fire department requirements and water flow requirements as established in the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule published by ISO.Position performs financial reviews of all certified fire districts use of the Fire Protection Fund. Review is conducted within the allowable uses of the fund as defined in 59A-53 the Fire Protection Fund Act and the administration rule 10.25.10 The Fire Protection Fund Position works directly with local government financial departments and government leaders in completing reviews and providing education on proper use of the fund. How does it get done?This individual is responsible for the scheduling of onsite inspections, meetings, and other needs of the Fire Departments the State Fire Marshals office. Who are the customers?This position will work closely with local government entities and communities within the state of New Mexico. Ideal CandidateAssociate degree in Fire Science from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in the fire service. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in Fire Science and/or direct experience in fire service totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of theclassification. Minimum QualificationAssociates Degree in Fire Science from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in the fire service to include Code Enforcement or Inspections. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in Fire Science and/or direct experience in fire service totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Employment is subject to a preemployment background check and is conditional pending results. Working on weekends, holidays and shift work may be required during emergency and/or disaster situations. Voluntarily carry department issued smart phone for official use without compensation. Working ConditionsWork is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to VisualVideo Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, printer, cellphone, copy machine, scanner, keyboard, and digital records with extended periods of sitting.Work is performed in office and outdoor settings. Extensive travel is required. May be exposed to physical and mental stress, hazardous materials, controlled substances; may be required to work irregular hours, holidays, weekends and in inclement weather. May be exposed to loud noises and dangers inherent during inspections of apparatus, and other Fire Service-related functions.Requires extensive lifting, bending, walking and other various physical activities involved with firefighter training and firefighter operations. Employee will experience prolonged exposure to weather elements, loud noises, water, smoke, heat, irritants, particulates, biological hazards, non-biological hazards and dust. Extensive daily and or overnight travel, weekends, nights andholidays may be required to perform job duties. The position also has times of extended desk work which include exposure to Visual Video Display terminal (VDD and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting.
