org Created in 1978 by the New Mexico Legislature, the Department of Cultural Affairs represents New Mexico's dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state.
The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico's arts and cultural heritage agencies.
These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services.
The Database Administrator assists all programs of the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) maintain and manage cultural information.
The position is responsible for ensuring the integrity and availability of mission critical DCA databases.
The Database Administrator helps department staff perform their work by ensuring the stable operation, security, and efficient performance of the department's museum, library, arts, and historic preservation data resources and participates in projects intended to make that data available to the public.
How does it get done? The Database Administrator creates, maintains, and improves databases and database systems; documents structures and procedures; and ensures that all systems adhere to industry best practices and organizational values.
The incumbent monitors and analyzes system performance; recommends and implements improvements; and participates in the development of tools and resources that make DCA information resources widely available on the internet.
The Database Administrator also provides end user support in regard to database issues, creates reports, and performs daily operational activities as assigned.
The incumbent will serve in a technical lead role on assigned projects and assist project teams with technical issues in all phases of project development.
Who are the customers? This position serves all divisions of the Department of Cultural Affairs Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has experience configuring, maintaining MSSQL and MySQL databases and database systems; experience with data security fundamentals; experience configuring and maintaining database servers; experience implementing and documenting standard configurations of system components; and experience with data migration.
Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in data analysis, design, storage and security.

Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
Some in-state travel may be required.
