Why does the job exist? This protective services position will provide expert case consultation to field staff in the area of foster care and adoptions (placement) services and will provide services to foster and adoptive families requiring specialized skills or expertise.
How does it get done? Foster family support:
provide crisis intervention and other therapeutic services to foster parents for the purpose of increasing placement stability, reducing maltreatment in foster care and improving retention of foster parents.
(25%); Relative family services:
provide placement services for relative families to address the unique challenges of providing care for kin and conducting other licensing and retention activities.
(25%); Adoptive family support:
provide pre and post services to adoptive families, including crisis intervention and other therapeutic services to support placement stability.
Provide home-based psycho-social support to adoptive families.
(25%); Provide specialized training and facilitate meetings with relative and other foster and adoptive providers.
(25%).
Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college/university and licensure by the New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners at the LBSW, LMSW, or LISW level OR a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or Family Services from an accredited college/university and two (2) years of any combination of experience including working with communities on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care.
Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or related experience totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of semester hours in a field (e.

6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications.
No substitutions apply for semester hours.
Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting:
late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required.
Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations.
Travel is required.
Possible exposure to irate clientele.
Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
Incumbent will be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments which may include transporting clients including children.
Must have own mode of transportation.
