Summary:
A correctional reentry department promotes public safety and wellbeing by maximizing the educational attainment of the incarcerated population, promoting their personal growth, and enhancing their capacities to succeed upon reentry into the community.
The Supervisor of Education oversees and manages educational and reentry programs, services, opportunities, and staff in a New Mexico Corrections Department correctional facility.
The Supervisor of Education works closely with facility security and Reentry instructional staff to ensure smooth daily operations of education and reentry programs and services, advocates for student success, translates directives and guidance of the Education Administrator and the parent Reentry Division into action, gathers and prepares data for departmentally mandated performance measures and makes efforts to increase performance, and supervises and supports staff who perform a variety of educational and reentry duties.

MINIMUM
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent One (1) year of supervisor experience 6 months of experience related to position PREFERRED
Experience:
Knowledge of programming and educational systems Prior experience working with criminal justice populations WORK ENVIRONMENT:
90% indoor - 10% outdoor.
Work is done inside the perimeter of an adult prison environment and in a variety of settings in a correctional institution, and includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates, sometimes one-on-one, and is potentially a very dangerous environment.
Work is performed in an office and classroom setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer usage.
Some travel may be required.
WORK PACE:
70% rapid pace to meet deadlines - 30% at own pace ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Organizes, plans, implements, and evaluates programming at their facility.
Responsible for the performance-based metrics and the outcome measures as outlined by the Reentry Division for their facility.
Supervises instructional staff within the correctional facility and oversees procurement needs and budget for facility programs.
Establishes and maintains an effective and engaging learning environment, appropriate to the needs and capacities of the students.
Develops and maintains a positive, collaborative relationship and regular communication with Education Administrator and other Central Office Staff.
Establishes and maintains relationships with facility administration, staff, incarcerated individuals, visitors and the general public.
Completes employee evaluations on all staff that are under direct supervision.
Coaches staff to improve job performance, effectiveness, and satisfaction.
Oversees the maintenance of accurate, complete and appropriate educational records, the preparation of reports as required by policy, regulations and procedure.
Uses verbal and written communication in an open, candid and consistent manner; explains concepts and procedures clearly and completely while maintaining attention and interest; displays sensitivity to the unique needs of NMCD student population.
Instructs as necessary and appropriate.
Trains, monitors, and supervises inmate peer facilitators/tutors in the implementation of structured education modules.
Perform related duties as required and assigned in order to meet the needs and goals of the Reentry Division.
Provides cognitive programming as directed by the Reentry Division.
Timely and accurate record keeping, including maintenance of electronic forms and files on the participants in programming.
Reports on student behavior.
Maintains order and discipline necessary in a learning situation.
Enforces institutional policies.
Networks with other relevant instructional and/or institutional staff on individual programs for and progress of students.
Follows all federal and state laws and regulations, Corrections Department rules, judicial decisions, and Reentry Division and Education Department policies.
Performs other duties as required.
NMCD retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
This position is designated as safety sensitive.
Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.
S and have reached the age of majority.
Willingness to work under potentially dangerous circumstances in a correctional facility and maintain strict fidelity to security protocols.
