Why does the job exist? This Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) Coordinator conducts research and processes time sensitive IPRA requests.
Coordinates and facilitates the department's compliance to the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA).
The coordinator serves as the primary point of contact regarding public records.
They monitor incoming requests, identify appropriate sources of information, redacts confidential information, and oversees the timely submission of responses.
Coordinator provides guidance to DPS division staff to produce requested data for agency's response to IPRA requests, ensuring compliance of the IPRA Act while adhering to agency policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws.
In addition, this position will perform multiple types of background investigations for highly sensitive positions including investigation of political appointees, applicants and recruits for the New Mexico State Police, individuals applying for sensitive positions, as well as other investigations.
The incumbent will provide tactical analysis of highly confidential, complex criminal information and sensitive personal data from multiple sources to authenticate identities and backgrounds of individuals under investigation.
How does it get done? 1.
Oversees, coordinates and ensures requests to inspect public records are responded to in a timely manner; identifies sources of information and communicates with department constituents at all levels to facilitate appropriate responses within statutory deadlines.

Serves as the primary point of contact for all internal and external constituencies regarding requests for public records.

Provides consultation and guidance to department constituents and leaders regarding compliance with federal and state regulations regarding the release of public records.
4.
Collaborates with department legal counsel to ensure responses comply with all appropriate exceptions; uses effective judgment to redact confidential information from public records where protected by federal or state laws.
5.
Monitors and manages the department's public records portal used for incoming requests and tracks pending responses; writes responses to requests, as appropriate, and oversees the compilation, review, and release of public records.

Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning.
